Emily and Paul at the courthouse in Waco, Texas

I had an epiphany.  I deliver staff development for teachers to encourage them to communicate with their students using social networking websites like blogs, wikis, Twitter, ect.  Even John McCain has a Twitter account.  Sooo…why am I not using this tool to communicate better with my family?

I think the last picture I gave anyone of Emily and Paul was in 2004.  Paul probably still had all of his baby teeth.  Ridiculous!  So, here and now, I vow (picture my fist in air!) to do a better job letting everyone know how the Reeves family is doing.

Hmmm…let me see…where to start?  Where to start?  With the kids, of course.

Emily is in 5th grade this year, as many of you already know.  She’s ten years old and fixin’ (I live in Texas now) to go to middle school.  The great part of that is that I’m the middle school librarian so she’ll be here with me; the bad part is that she’s going to MIDDLE SCHOOL! How in the world is she old enough to go to middle school?  How could that be?  Wasn’t she born last week? Ugh!  I’m having a very hard time dealing with this.  She is still taking ballet and her teacher expects her on pointe by next September.  Wow, huh?  She has also convinced her dad and I to let her take gymnastics as well.  Which is probably a good idea.  She’s played softball the last three years, but all the girls are getting so much bigger than her that she’s having a hard time competing.  She has been a straight A student this year and especially love science.  Emily also will tell you that when she grows up she wants to be a veterinarian.

Paul is in third grade this year.  Next year, he will transfer to the 4/5 campus.  Paul has had a hard time finding his niche athletically.  We tried baseball (flower picker) and tae kwon do (he did well…broke a board by kicking it…lost interest) and now he wants to try gymnastics with Emily.  We’re going to let him try it.  You never know, he might love it.  Paul has also began biofeedback therapy to help him with his aspergers.  The objective is to help the different parts of his brain to talk to each other better.  We hope (Paul, too) that this will help him with his impulsivity and problems in school.  He gets in trouble for talking out in class a lot.  It’s been hard for him because even though he loves to learn, he’s really disliked school for a couple of years.  This year, though, is better than last and I have high hopes that he’ll get Ms. Pugh in 4th grade.  She’s just awesome.

JR is still working at the ferry landing and as I said before I’m the middle school  librarian.  Most of our free time, like most dads and moms, is spent shuttling kids to activities, dentist appointments, doing homework, wiping noses, and loving on our kids.  Honestly, we need to spend more time alone together.  Which reminds me, tomorrow is our 14th wedding anniversary.

Yes, you can attach pictures, too. I need to change your status to “author” from user so you can write posts and pages, too. I’d love it if we could write little status reports every so often.

Wow! I’m going to have to check out your blog. And yes…you’re correct, both of my kiddos have red hair. I love thinking that they’ll become powerful, clever, funny people. I’ve added your blog to my links, if you don’t mind. I’m sure that my friends and family would like to hear about your son as well as me. It is so helpful to hear suggestions from others. Have you checked out this blog: http://aspergernetwork.wordpress.com/? I just found it today.

Wow — I finally found out about your family and saw pictures of Paul & Emily, which yes, I haven’t seen for five years. This is a great thing. Keep up the good work. Love you all.
